SPECIAL ACJ DISCUSSION:
Recontextualizing Our Classical Foundations

The Editors of The American Communication Journal focus this issue's special section on the work recently released by Professor Edward Schiappa of the University of Minnesota: The Beginnings of Rhetorical Theory in Classical Greece. The original versions of the essays contained in this section were given at the annual convention of the Southern States Communication Association, St. Louis, 1999. We offer critiques from James Arnt Aune of Texas A & M, Dale Sullivan of Michigan Technological University, and David M. Timmerman of Wabash College, followed by a brief response from Professor Schiappa.
