Please note that this generalization is not intended as a blanket indictment of older faculty - many who did not publish respected the efforts of their younger colleagues, and continued to be intellectually alive in reading and discussing contemporary scholarship, and in incorporating new technologies as it informed their teaching and their interactions with students and colleagues; unfortunately, there were others whose intellectual curiosity was a thing of the past, though no one had told them and they continued to enter the classroom, secure in the knowledge gained years ago, and unfettered by the complications posed by new information.
